Xylella: Open Cellars Hashtag for the Olive Trees in Puglia. 50 restaurateurs unite with Movimento Turismo del Vino and Movimento Turismo Olio

05/06/2015 A call to support the olive-growing industry in Puglia has gone viral on social networks: featuring the hashtag as the ladder traditionally used to pick olives topped by a chef’s hat and the logo “io sto con gli #ulividipuglia” (I’m for the olive trees in Puglia), the campaign, launched by Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia and Movimento Turismo dell’Olio, will “invade” all “virtual squares” for the entire month of June

As the next evolution of the Open Cellars event, the initiative even sees the participation of fifty restaurateurs from Puglia and will donate part of the proceeds of wine glass sales to fund a campaign in favour of the olive tree.

“Thousand-year old olive trees are real monuments of nature,” said Sebastiano de Corato, President of Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia. “In Puglia, many winemakers also produce [olive] oil, so we are especially sensitive to this industry.”

“ As always, our goal is that of collaborating, especially during critical times, like the one for oil now, making the consumers and people in the sector aware of important themes about the pillars of the agricultural patrimony of our region. This time,” concluded de Corato, “we thought about involving restaurateurs who, through their work, are the first messengers of the quality and uniqueness of the extra-virgin [olive oil] from Puglia.” (Source: Ansa)
