Wine eCommerce strives to take off in Italy but doesn’t lack innovation

22/11/2013 After the launch of the Vinitaly Wine Club by VeronaFiera comes and vente-privé in France aimed at subscribers

While wine ecommerce in Italy is struggling to get off the ground, it does not lack in initiative. After the launch of Vinitaly Wine Club by VeronaFiere, which is soon debuting abroad with mostly targeting China where purchasing wine on-line has been met with great success, arrives, started up by Bruno Ciscato, Luca Brugnaro and Christian Bottegal.

At a first glance, it would seem that this site has what it takes to succeed: easy to use, decent prices, broad variety from small niche producers to great classics in all price ranges as well as theme selections making it easier to choose wines and so on. Only time will tell of their success.

Meanwhile in France, the colossal ecommerce site among the world leaders of on-line wine sales (with over 30 million euros invoiced for wine in 2012), www.vente-privé, is experimenting with a formula which seems to be the trend almost everywhere: subscribers. Experts select deals ranging from 29 to 49 euros a month for two to three bottles, which are then delivered right to the client who doesn’t have to do anything else except open the bottles and drink them.
