06/12/2013 A chance to spend Advent with producers during the last MTV event of the year

Christmas lights are on in Movimento Turismo del Vino cellars with shows, charity events, holiday recipes, tasty treats and itineraries in medieval castles and oil mills. Cantine Aperte for Christmas will be on December 7 and 8, an opportunity to spend Advent with producers during the last MTV event of the year. With music, culinary treats and tastings under the Christmas tree, wine lovers can also do some shopping by choosing special wines as gifts.

In Sicily at Don Saro (December 7-8) the proceeds from all bottles sold will go to Telethon for research on genetic disease while on December 7 in the Antinori winery the labels of MTV Toscana wineries will be auctioned off to help the Tuscan Cancer Agency. And if in the south of Chianti (Fattoria del Colle, December 7) Cantine Aperte for Christmas becomes a party with a DJ where you can groove to the beat around barrels, in the province of Arezzo (Tenuta La Pineta) December 8 will be a day dedicated to art with a photography exhibit spotlighting the Tuscan countryside.

Further south in Campania, December 7-8 will see toasts, tastings and tours of the cellars on the Amalfi Coast in the areas of Falerno, Vesuvius and Sannio (Benevento). To taste typical local products of Castel del Lago, Venticano and Dentecane, just head to Terredora (December 7) for the best in food and wine in the surrounding area of Irpinia. The party goes on to Monday, December 9 in Naples with the inauguration of the “Mostra delle Bottiglie d’Artista” (Bottle Art Exhibit) featuring the creations of 23 artists on display until December 23.

Art pairs well with organic in Friuli Venezia Giulia: on December 7 and 8 in the province of Udine, sculptures will be displayed in the cellar (Aquila del Torre) with also a tasting of wines paired with organic salami (Borgo dei Sapori). Itinerary for food lovers in the cellars of Lazio in medieval castles, old Roman cisterns and historic villas (December 7-8) while for those in Puglia (December 8), bike itineraries lead to oil mills and cellars where you can taste freshly pressed olive oil and choose wines to celebrate Yuletide cheer. At S. Colombano al Lambro (Pietrasanta) in Lombardy on December 8 and 15, there is “UnAmicoCuoco in Barricaia”(ACookFriend in the Barrique Cellar) where new holiday recipes will be revamped and taught so you can try them at home. In Umbria in Montefalco (Arnaldo Caprai) the art of Christmas decorations will be learned through play (for the little ones) while architect Walter Capezzali, the historian of ceremonies, will share his advice and reveal all the secrets of laying a beautiful and welcoming table for the holidays.

In Torgiano (Lungarotti) festivities are set for Saturday, December 7 with “CHE MITO RAGAZZI! Favole sotto l’olivo” (LEGENDARY, GUYS! Tales under the olive tree): a theatrical workshop for young people about old myths and fairy tales. Castles and monasteries will be discussed in Molise (Cantine d’Uva) with the symposium from Lombardy. Typical products and unusual pairings will enrich cellar tours in Emilia Romagna. A weekend of guided tastings in Basilicata with fine wines and gastronomic gems, while in Veneto there will be artisan markets (Al Canevon) or guided tours of “Una Storia di Vite” (A Tale of Vines) (Zonin). In the Marche region (Fiorini), it will be possible to visit the “Tetto d’Uva” (Grape Ceiling) with hundreds of hanging bunches of grapes that are raisining and destined to become Vin Santo.

Finally for a return to the Middle Ages, a quick trip to Piedmont (Cattaneo Adorno Giustiniani) and a visit to Gabiano Castle and its rare labyrinth garden.
