BIT 2014: Puglia Showcases Wine Tourism at Fuori Salone and the Fair from February 14 to 17

Making orecchiette pasta by hand, tasting regional specialties, imagining agricultural landscapes and old town centers through the stories of local experts; this is what the Puglia Region with the Department of Food and Agricultural Resources is offering for the 2014 edition of BIT in Milano set for February 13 to 15.

The initiatives will take place in collaboration with the Rete Masserie Didattiche di Puglia (Network of Educational Manor Houses of Puglia) and Movimento Tourismo del Vino Puglia, already partners with the Department in past editions. The Masserie Didattiche will act as spokesperson for the regional traditional gastronomy while Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia for the tastings of emblematic wines of the territory.

During the three days of the fair, the Puglia Region stand will come alive with activities linked to regional food. Every morning “Lezioni di Cucina” workshops will feature cooking lessons on typical food from Puglia. Each one will focus on the culinary specialties from one of the three regional subzones, Terre di Federico, Valle d’Itria and Salento, and pair the dishes to regional wines by Movimento Turismo del Vino. The afternoon program is just as rich with “Con le mani in pasta” workshops, a “hands on” opportunity to make the most famous pasta from Puglia, orecchiette. Workshop attendees will leave with a gift bag containing gadgets and promotional material from Movimento Turismo del Vino and the Masserie Didattiche.

Promoting food and wine from Puglia goes social. A big backdrop of the rural regional countryside gives passersby the chance to make a quick “trip” around Puglia, take some snapshots, and publish them as profile pics on Facebook: a cool way to spread the word about what is happening at the Puglia stand and reach out to younger visitors.

New this year is the Fuori Bit event, which will run simultaneously with the other activities at the trade show. On Thursday, February 13, the flavors of Puglia will transfer to the center of Milan at the “Misura Arredamenti” showroom (via Larga, 15 – zona Duomo) for a cooking demo from 12 to 2pm and 6 to 9 pm. Participants will be lead into discovering the typical regional food as well as the wine from the territory on this adventure for the senses with tastings by Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia and exclusive access for specialized press.

The Masserie Didattiche pull out all the stops during the pasta-making workshops for orecchiette pasta paired with seasonal vegetables with the best the region has to offer. The various corners of the stand feature bread and other baked goods from the bakery, mozzarella cheese prepared on the spot by a master cheese-maker, cheese and typical salami, extra-virgin olive oil and preserves presented in different ways for tasting, as well as fruit and typical desserts to end on a sweet note.
