Cantine Aperte in #Umbria: A, B… Cantine Aperte. The 22nd Edition in 52 Umbrian Cellars

13/05/2014 Sunday, May 25 Umbrian wine will be celebrated in Movimento Turismo del Vino member cellars displaying the “Socio Movimento Turismo del Vino 2014 – Le Cantine Aperte siamo noi! Diffidate dalle imitazioni” logo (We are Cantine Aperte. Be wary of imitations!). This 22nd edition is dedicated to little ones and their families on teaching farms with music and solidarity. “Dinner with the Winemaker” on Saturday, May 24 features traditional menus and wine tastings

Among tastings of top local wines, tasty pairings and many entertaining activities to learn about wine, the 22nd edition of Cantine Aperte, which will take place in 52 cellars in Umbria on Sunday, May 25 from 10am to about 6pm, will be dedicated to little ones and their families. Thanks to the presence of winemakers who are registered to the Region of Umbria, the cellars will open their doors not only to wine lovers, but also to children so that they can learn up close and literally touch the countryside with all of its fruits.

An A, B… Cantine Aperte, the goal is to teach little guests, between 3 and 14 years of age, the basics of wine production and, with time, turn them into informed and attentive consumers. Many of the initiatives scheduled for the event may be found on the www.mtvumbria.it site as well as on the sites of the individual wineries.

Following the success of Umbria named by Wine Enthusiast in the Top Ten best wine travel destinations, the MTV wineries are ready for a special edition and remind all the wine lovers that only Cantine Aperte wineries that display the “Socio Movimento Turismo del Vino 2014 – Le Cantine Aperte siamo noi! Diffidate dalle imitazioni!” logo can guarantee the traditional hospitality which has made this event what it is.

DINNER WITH THE WINEMAKER – In seventeen of the participating wineries, the festivities begin on Saturday, May 24 during Dinner with the Winemaker, an evening with traditional local specialties served with the best wines from each cellar.

Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25 will be a wine-filled weekend in Umbria along one of the many wine tourist routes created by Movimento Turismo del Vino and Strade del Vino e dell’Olio dell’Umbria in search of the riches and traditions of the region. Like the new itinerary “A Toast to Don Matteo” which, created on great demand, stops in the most important areas of the territory around Spoleto in the name of wine and the famous Rai1 TV show. Or visit the photo exhibit by Steve McCurry, Sensational Umbria (at the Ex Ospedale Fatebenefratelli in Perugia, from March 29 to October 5, 2014), to then spend a weekend in the cellar immersed in flavours and traditions.

Cantine Aperte provides the opportunity to show solidarity with the less fortunate once again this year with the renewed participation of the Comitato Per La Vita Daniele Chianelli (www.comitatodanielechianelli.it) which once again sponsors the official Cantine Aperte in Umbria glass available for purchase at €5 which is not only a pass for the wine tastings but is also a contribution to fund research for the cure for leukemia, lymphoma and tumors in adults and children sponsored by the association from Perugia. A solidary day also with Progetto ETICO by Amorim Cork Italia and its cork drive in the cellar. Everyone who wishes to contribute to the cork collection during the event will support the Associazione Viva (http://asd-viva.blogspot.cm/) and its initiatives to fund sports and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. Every quintal of corks collected will give €100 to the association to invest in their activities.

Cantine Aperte has always been an ideal occasion to learn about wine and teach young people how to drink responsibly. At this year’s edition, the Enometro (winemeter), the tasting instrument that encourages people to drink responsibly sponsored by Squisy, will once again be included in the pouch with the wine glass.

One of the best pairings in our region is between wine and the “torta al testo” (traditional flat bread snack) could not be left out. For this occasion, the official partner will be MRC Antichi Sapore di C.M., tastings with the “torta al testo” in tasty different versions from traditional to special ones paired with wines will be available in selected wineries. Perhaps to taste even with one of the most typical Umbrian cheeses by Grifo Latte, another local partner of Cantine Aperte 2014.

In keeping with the theme of linking big names in typical Umbrian flavours, the extra-virgin olive oil DOP from Umbria will also be in the cellars with their top products thanks to the renewed collaboration with Strada dell’Olio extra-virgin DOP Umbria and Frantoi Aperti.

Finally, the partnership between Movimento Turismo del Vino Umbria and Università dei Sapori will be inaugurated especially for Cantine Aperte as a means to valorize and promote the best in regional food and wine.

“Università dei Sapori is extremely satisfied to have sealed this important agreement collaboration with Movimento Turismo del Vino,” says President Annarita Fioroni, “certainly, with synergic action, the typical and top quality wine and food production of Umbria can be fully endorsed. The goal of the Università dei Sapori,” concludes the President, “is exactly to promote and spread the food culture through the endorsement of typical products to giving those who decide to undertake a future in restaurants, who are already in the sector or simply a connoisseur, the expertise to interpret the world of food.

Cantine Aperte 2014 is made possible by the fundamental support of the Umbria Region, the sponsorship of the Perugia Chamber of Commerce and partners like Overplace, Rastal, Granart, Leroy Merlin, Assipiù Broker Assicurativo, Banca di Credito Coperativo di Spello e Bettona and CentroStampa2.

Immediately after Cantine Aperte, Movimento Turismo del Vino Umbria will once again be in the spotlight with Piacere Barbecue, the grilling event in the open air set for June 6-15 in Perugia. In fact, MTV Umbria will be in the Aperitivo area of the Grill VIP Area where MTV wines can be tasted in a comfortable space with the help of AIS Sommeliers while waiting for the BBQ to be ready. Furthermore MTV Umbria will provide a prize of a supply of local wines for the Italian Barbeque Championship, the first of its kind set for Piacere Barbecue.
