Cantine Aperte for Harvest Time in #Lazio: 14 MTV Lazio Wineries Open their Doors to Wine Lovers

21/09/2014 Sunday, September 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tourists to Be Welcomed as True Friends by the Best Winemakers in Lazio

On September 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during Cantine Aperte for Harvest Time, tourists will be welcomed as true friends by the best winemakers in the Lazio region, Movimento Turismo del Vino Lazio members, who will guide them through galleries of barrels while tasting their wines in addition to typical local delicacies and enjoying cultural and folkloristic events during the harvest. Come to the cellar and see how fine wine is made starting right from the grape harvest to tasting the must to then following and deepening the process of grape transformation into wine, and experience the harvest festivities with keen interest and good cheer along with the winemakers in an atmosphere filled with fragrances of autumn.

Wine tourists will have the opportunity to visit wineries that are quite different from one another: from the one built in a Roman cistern, to another in a medieval castle, to those located near archaeological settlements, in 17th century farmhouses and in 18th, 19th and early 20th century villas. The goal of the “Cantine Aperte for Harvest Time” event is to learn about how a bottle of wine is made and to taste a glass of wine tapped right from the barrels recalling age-old gestures in our consumer-based world that often overlooks the farming traditions of days gone by.

At each winery’s “tasting points”, must, wine and typical local fare from the Lazio provinces (bread, salami, cheese, porchetta, organic products, preserves in oil, desserts, honey, jams and other delicacies) may be tasted in an effort to promote other autumn farm and food products from the territories of the Lazio region in addition to wine. There will also be “Lunch with the Winemaker”. Wine tourism within the CANTINE APERTE FOR HARVEST TIME event unites the harvest culture and art culture. At the upcoming edition, there will be cultural and traditional events (in some wineries, the grapes may be crushed with your bare feet, which was once the tradition). “Wine is the poetry of the land,” as Mario Soldati stated.

For years, Movimento Turismo del Vino Lazio has put on the harvest festival to show how the best wines are made at member wineries. It is a unique opportunity to meet wine tourists in an atmosphere infused with the aromas of must and autumn.
