The 13th edition of 'Cantine Aperte in Puglia' will be held in 57 wineries from the Daunia to the Salento. The important event dedicated to wine and its growing areas is scheduled throughout Italy for Sunday, 29th May from 10,00 a.m. until the evening.

'Cantine Aperte', organized in collaboration with Puglia Region – Department of Tourism and of Agri-food Resources - marks the start of the Movimento Turismo del Vino 2011 calendar and is a unique experience for the growing numbers of enthusiasts and tourists that follow our Association also on the website and social networks.

New 2011 initiative is 'Il Segnavino', thanks to the partnership with APE – Puglian editors association: many authors will present their books, mainly about wine & food, in the participating wineries.

The appointment, at 12,00 p.m., will be the opportunity to meet authors like Vittorio Stagnani, Massimo Vaglio, Vito Signorile or Maria Antonietta Epifani. They will speak with the visitors and read some exerpts from their books, toasting with a good glass of wine

' Wine – says Silvia Godelli, Head of Tourism Dpt. – is the symbol of our sunny and shiny Region: wine is the metaphor of fascinating places with an ancient tradition. The wineries of Puglia welcome the tourist to let them discover a Region rich in flavours and culture, forward-looking and ready to meet the challenges of modernity'.

Experts and enthusiasts will taste good wine, of old vintages up to the newest, in the labs and mini-courses guided by oenologists and sommeliers. For the beginners, Cantine Aperte is a starting point to learn more about vine varieties like Negroamaro, Primitivo, Nero di Troia, used for red wines, and discover lesser known, but nice, white and rosé wines. There will be also many wine & food pairings, folk music performances, art exhibitions and events dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

'It will be a journey to discover the most authentic roots of Puglia - says Dario Stefàno, Head of Agri-food Resources Dpt. – of a productive tradition that characterized the economic and social history of our rural communities and that gives us hope for a future marked by innovation and modernity.

For one day wine lovers and tourists will discover the magic of wine directly in the wine cellars, places that keep an extraordinary wine heritage turning Puglia, along with its cuisine, landscapes and typical products into a symbol of taste and quality.

' Cantine Aperte, the most important Italian wine event, confirms its cultural value and invites everybody to spend a plesant and interesting day among the wineries- says Vittoria Cisonno, President of the Movimento Turismo del Vino.

The union of wine and books and the opportunity to reserve free winebus, are two important initiatives in this day of celebration'.

After the great success of last editions, the partnership with APT is confirmed. Shuttle buses, free and with a tourist guide, will start from the main city centres in order to reach the wineries in comfort and without any risk.

Finally, for fans of cycling, there will be routes between wine and nature organized by the Cicloamiciassociations.

The extra virgin olive oil, another cornerstone of the agricultural sector, will be exposed in the wineries thanks to the Movimento Turismo dell'Olio, official partner of the event. The extra virgin of Puglia will be presented in the winery producing oil and in those hosting an oil farm selected by the Association.

Another important initiative is the glass lottery 'Vetro e vinci' game designed to highlight a proper tasting in wine glasses. With 5 € you can buy the glass, taste the wines of the wineries visited and enter the drawing for a selection of wines.

The premiere presentation of 'Cantine Aperte' will be held at the Feltrinelli in Bari on Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m.(free admission).
