15/10/2013 In the limelight at November

The Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia Consortium is ready again to take on the Asian markets: eight wineries will present their wines to the Chinese market during the International Wine and Spirits Fair in Hong Kong from 7th to 9th November. The fair will be the high point of the entire week dedicated to Puglia from 4th to 11th November.

The following wineries will be the stars of the Fair at the MTV Puglia/Wines of Puglia stand in Pavilion 5/B: Cantele from Guagnano (Le), Castel di Salve from Depressa di Tricase (Le), Eméra from Pulsano (Ta), Racemi from Manduria (Ta), Duca Carlo Guarini from Scorrano (Le), Tormaresca from Minervino Murge (BT), Vigne&Vini from Leporano (Ta), and Antica Masseria Jorche from Manduria (Ta). They are all ready to take on the Chinese market, which now accounts for almost 60% of the total Asian market and where there has been an incredible 94% growth in the market share of Italian wines.

The seminar on Thursday 7th November at 4.30 pm in the Winestaly Tour wine-tasting area will be an important event aimed at traders, buyers, journalists and opinion leaders. . In charge of this event will be Daniele Cirsone, with his expert knowledge of Puglia's wines and territories. He will present some of the region's excellent wines for tasting so that participants will have their first contact with the best of Puglia via its most typical grape varieties: Nero di Troia, Negroamaro, and Primitivo.

'Our participation at the International Wine and Spirits Fair in Hong Kong – says Sebastiano de Corato, President of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia Consortium – is the start of 'Wines of Puglia IV', an OCM project which will involve the wines of our members in a series of promotional events outside Europe. This project is the biggest regional project, with over a million euros in funding, and it is no coincidence that it starts from the 'Gateway to the East', because the Chinese market is one of the most dynamic, with some of the most interesting medium-term growth prospects. In addition, we have organised a whole week of events to promote our regional wines to the best advantage, with the support of Regione Puglia's Agro-Food Resources Office. We are certain – de Corato concludes – that this kind of synergic activity to capture the attention of international opinion leaders will have a positive effect on the entire regional sector'.

'Puglia Wine Week' from 4th to 11th November includes light lunches, dinners and special wine-tastings, giving guests an opportunity to discover great wines and special menus. Dishes created by chefs skilled in Puglia's typical cuisine will be accompanied by a selection of the region's top-class wines.

'Hong Kong is the hub for contacts with China, Japan, India, Australia and the entire Far East, and when we present our wines here it means that we are in contact with buyers and traders who actually make up a sizeable piece of the world market - says Fabrizio Nardoni, Regione Puglia's Agro-Food Resources Officer – The Chinese market opened up a while ago to our region's quality products – especially food and wine – and because China is a young wine market there is great potential for expansion in the next few years. Puglia's wine-growers and regional government have absolutely no intention of missing this opportunity.'.

Outside the Fair district, Puglia's headquarters will be at 'Giando', one of Hong Kong's top Italian restaurants, and the venue for some very interesting and exclusive events during this special week.

The biggest event in terms of promoting Puglia's wineries will be the b2b workshop on Wednesday 6th November at 3.30 pm, on the day before the Fair opens. This important trade event is dedicated to Puglia's producers who want to meet international buyers and distributors working especially on the Chinese market. At the end of the workshop, 'Giando' will be the venue for wine-tasting with finger-food based on Puglia's typical cuisine; an invitation to international journalists, opinion leaders, bloggers, restaurateurs, sommeliers, Ho.Re.Ca. channel personnel, alongside distributors and buyers from all over the world.
