PUGLIA AT THE BIT 2015

02/02/2015 From 12th to 14th February in Milan, in the run-up to EXPO 2015, the Heel of Italy

Delicious attractions in a high season lasting twelve months: this is the wine and food tourism offer which the Regione Puglia – Agro-Food Resources Office will present at the 35th BIT – International Tourism Fair, in Milan from 12th to 14th February. As usual, the Regione will be working in partnership with the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia and the Masserie Didattiche to offer a 'taste' of its programme for Expo 2015. Visitors will find Puglia at stands A01-A07-C02-C08 in Hall 9.

Puglia has a calendar of events inside and outside the fair for visitors, business people, tourist industry experts and the specialist press, all increasingly interested in discovering Puglia's excellent agro-food and tourist sectors, among its biggest attractions for iincoming visitors in recent years.

Every morning the Masserie Didattiche will be organising their 'Lezioni di Cucina' regional cookery workshops, each focusing on the special culinary features of the territories of Puglia, from the Salento to Daunia, via the Murge. The afternoon programme is equally full, with regional cookery workshops to provide 'hands on' experience of preparing one of Puglia's world-famous specialities - orecchiette. The Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia will be presenting the region's wines at wine-tasting events and seminars led by regional experts. Another must is the focus on Puglia's 'green gold', offering the chance to taste the extra virgin olive oils produced by the members of the Movimento Turismo dell'Olio.

The Puglia exhibition area is not only for tasting events. There will also be presentations of tourist routes and wine and food tourist packages exploring the region's historical and cultural attractions, its landscapes and agro-food products. With its countryside full of olive-trees, gleaming white old cities, baroque towns, vineyards overshadowed by monuments, and its areas of unspoilt beauty, Puglia aims to acquire a name as a holiday destination offering good food and relaxation in a rural setting. Puglia will also meet wine and food tourism specialists on 12th and 13th February, when selected buyers from the main target markets will be able include the regional wine and food itineraries in their international portfolios.

And of course Puglia's wine and food will be promoted on the social networks: a fun wall panel with a typical country scene will give visitors the chance to go on a quick 'bike tour' of Puglia, take a photo and post it on their Facebook profile. This fun activity publicising the events in the Puglia exhibition area is aimed at younger visitors.

Puglia will again this year issue an invitation to 'Fuori Salone', in parallel with the fair. On Friday 13th February at 6pm the flavours of Puglia will move to the centre of Milan, to OPEN (http://www.openMilan.com/), a modern multi-functional space which is a social and professional hub. The event is a cooking demo in partnership with the Masserie Didattiche, aimed at exploring the region's typical food traditions. This will be accompanied by a presentation on wine-growing in the region with wine-tasting organised by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia, exclusively for the specialist press, opinion leaders, restaurateurs and those operating in this sector.
