Puglia at the International Wine Tourism Conference in Rheims

08/04/2015 the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia in France

From 8th to 10th April the world's wine tourism sector meets at Reims in France for the 7th Wine Tourism Conference & Workshop, the world's most important wine tourism conference.
Brainchild of specialist agency Wine Pleasure di Barcelona, after the last editions in Italy, Croatia e Georgia, the fair comes to one of the world's most important wine tourist destinations for the first time. This exceptional setting in Champagne will attract the world's top buyers with its excellent wines.
This seventh edition involves some big numbers. The three-day programme includes targeted wine-tasting sessions, press tours, case histories from all over the world, and workshops for over 250 wine and travel professionals, including tour operators, companies, journalists, bloggers and wine tourism players from 30 countries. Those present will take stock of a sector in continual expansion; wine tourism holidays involve 3 million people a year in Italy alone, generating a turnover estimated at between 4 and 5 billion euros.
The Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia will be at this important event alongside its partner, Regione Puglia's Rural Development Policy Sector, with a series of targeted activities. These aim to valorise the region's wine-growing territories, increasing wine-tourist numbers and boosting Puglia's reputation as an exceptional holiday destination for those in search of relaxation and a taste of country life.
'In partnership with the regional government, - says Sebastiano de Corato, President of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia – our Consortium will take part in the International Wine Tourism Conference & Workshop for the second time, after the 2012 edition in Umbria. Having achieved a strong position on the Italian and international market as the successful holiday destination, Puglia will be at the conference bolstered also by US magazine Wine Enthusiast's designation as a Top Wine Tourism Destination in 2013. This event in Rheims will see the Consortium busy intercepting specialist operators who are increasingly interested in offering Puglia to their customers as a destination for wine tourism and rural tourism'.
The excellent level of hospitality of 'made in Puglia' wineries will be highlighted with two strategic activities: an information point open throughout the conference, promoting our region with theme wine and food tourism routes and packages, to enable cyclists, walkers and drivers to discover the region's major historical and cultural attractions, along with its loveliest landscapes and agro-food specialities. This will be accompanied by wine-tasting with labels from the wineries belonging to the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia. The stars of the wine-tasting stand will of course be the region's main indigenous varieties, like Nero di Troia, Primitivo and Negroamaro.
Finally, on 10th April, the big event is the workshop day to connect the region's offer with international demand. Puglia's wine tourism offer will meet specialist buyers working on the most influential foreign markets. Representing the 'Heel of Italy' is Apulia2Meet, tour operator partner of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia, which will present a series of individual and group offers created together with the Consortium.
