Cantine Aperte 2015

There is a ferment of preparation all over Italy for the 23rd edition of Cantine Aperte, the Movimento Turismo del Vino's wine festival, held as usual on the last Sunday in May.

On Sunday 31st May, around fifty excellent wineries across Puglia will welcome visitors to take a tour and discover their wines and other regional products. The wine-growers themselves will be on hand to tell visitors about the passionate commitment behind the region's wine industry.

'Cantine Aperte is the event which created the Movimento Turismo del Vino – says Sebastiano de Corato, President of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia – and which has brought together a thousand of Italy's excellent wine-growers, leaders in expressing and promoting their own territories and experts in hospitality. This has met the needs of the more attentive consumers, who have become the wine tourists flocking to the wineries, and not only when we hold Cantine Aperte. On Sunday 31st May Puglia's wineries will lead this great celebration'.

From morning to evening hundreds of labels will be available for tasting, from the great vintages to the newest entries on the market, together with vertical wine tasting, workshops and mini-courses led by oenologists and sommeliers. As every year, the day will also include fun events, games, musical entertainment and combinations of music and art. For details of the wineries taking part and the day's programme of each one, just look at www.mtvpuglia.it or see MTV Puglia on the social networks (Facebook and Twitter).

At this year's Cantine Aperte in particular, the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia is promoting an environmental scheme - '1 tappo, 2 perchè' (1 cork, 2 reasons). The aim is to protect both the environment and Puglia's olive trees, because the region's other traditional crop and the vine's 'companion' is now under great threat.

The project aims to involve the thousands of wine tourists who visit the wineries for Cantine Aperte, asking them to 'hand in' wine corks when they buy their wine glasses. The corks will be recycled, and visitors will hear about new campaign to protect Puglia's threatened olive trees; 'iostocon#gliulividipuglia' will be launched the day after Cantine Aperte and will be led by Puglia's restaurateurs, who are extra virgin olive oil's most important spokesmen with consumers.

In order to consolidate the importance of extra virgin olive oil alongside Puglia's leading wines, the oil presses belonging to the Movimento Turismo dell'Olio will also be at the wineries for Cantine Aperte, offering their excellent oils and conserves for visitors to taste.

Wine lovers can choose to drive to Cantine Aperte (on their own) or to go by bike (with FIAB Ruotalibera and Cicloamici cycling clubs).

Cantine Aperte is trademark of Movimento Turismo del Vino, legally registered and protected to prevent misuse/imitations and to ensure that consumers receive the quality of professional hospitality which is the hallmark of MTV wineries.

The event is organised in partnership with Regione Puglia's Rural Development Office and Vinitaly International, official representative of Italian wine at Expo 2015.
