Calici di Stelle 2016 in Lucera and Copertino

28/07/2016 Here comes this year

This year Puglia will be celebrating the 18th edition of Calici di Stelle in Daunia and Salento. This eagerly awaited summer event is organised by the Movimento Turismo del Vino in partnership with Città del Vino, bringing together wine, territory and a full programme of activities for visitors as they taste the region's best wines.
This year's first evening in Puglia launches the event nationwide. Special guest Donatella Cinelli Colombini, founder of Mtv Italia, and inventor of Calici di Stelle will be cutting the opening ribbon on Saturday 6 August in Lucera. This means that the event returns in style to Daunia after eight years away from this splendid romanesque city, host to four past editions of Calici di Stelle. The second part of Calici di Stelle is on Wednesday 10 August in Copertino, now an established venue on the Night of San Lorenzo. Once again this year the event is part of the PSR 2014-2020 Project of the Regione Puglia Agrifood Resources Office, helping to make Calici di Stelle a success since the very first edition.
Wine tasting, quality wines, fun activities and information with music and dance shows provide a great atmosphere on these two evenings. The theme is 'Bevi consapevole' (Drink with Care) and this is the central message of this year's event, along with the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia's own message to visitors that they should choose only quality wines and taste them correctly in a wine glass. In support of the campaign for responsible drinking, when visitors buy the kit degustazione (tasting kit €10 - wine glass in a pouch, tarallini, 8 wine tasting tickets) they will also be given a useful gadget, an alcohol test kit to use before they leave, along with a flyer to help them find their way around the evening's event.
In these two wonderful settings - a great attraction for Italian and foreign tourists - the absolute stars of the evening are the wines of the Movimento's member wineries, with their daily commitment to consolidate the quality and reliability of the region's producers.
'Calici di Stelle is the summer event for the wine growers belonging to the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia and for the many wine tourists who holiday in our beautiful region – comments Sebastiano de Corato, President of the Consortium. This is a great occasion, showcasing the bond between wine and territory in Lucera and Copertino's lovely old towns, where flavours, information, music and atmosphere constitute the setting for a virtual tour of the entire region's variegated wine industry'.
Wine tasting in both cities will be organised into three itineraries that reflect the different wine growing territories - Terre del Nero di Troia, Terre del Primitivo, and Terre del Negroamaro. Wine lover will be able to go on a real and virtual tour of Puglia's wines among the tasting stalls, where they will discover the region's rich wine growing heritage, its picturesque territories, native vines and protected designations of origin. The AIS Puglia sommeliers and trainees will be at the tasting stalls to guide visitors with information and suggestions.
This year Calici di Stelle has another technological novelty in store, making it possible to follow the evening via smartphone. It will be possible to download the tasting itinerary and the evening's entire programme with the Calici di Stelle app (personalised for Lucera and Copertino), along with the wineries in the different territories, and the name of the wine offered for tasting according to the relevant native grape variety. The app can be downloaded using the QR code on all the information materials available during the evening, on the panels marking out the tasting itinerary, on the flyer with the alcohol test gadget, and also by connecting smartphones or tablets to the Play Store or Apple Store. Another QR code will enable visitors to take away information after the event by downloading the useful Ampelopuglia app, which tells them all about Puglia's wines and is a complete guide to wine growing in the region.
Both cities will also be hosting shows to accompany wine tasting under the stars, with music and dance reflecting the region's wine growing heritage. In Copertino and Lucera, the musical entertainment will be provided by Puglia folk group 'U'munacidde', with folk music performed in a typical tavern atmosphere. In Lucera's atmospheric Roman amphitheatre, the 'Gershwin' cultural association will perform 'Il vino nell'Opera' with arias celebrating wine and conviviality.
Returning to wine tasting, as they do every year, professional sommeliers will be focussing on the Doc labels symbolising the two cities. In the lovely courtyard of Lucera's Palazzo Petrilli, a selection of Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera will be provided by the Consorzio di Tutela della Doc, and in Copertino's wonderful ex Convento delle Clarisse Copertino Doc will be available for tasting (booking necessary in both cities, free, rotating sessions for max 25 people each time). An enjoyable, interesting and informative way of understanding professional wine tasting and discovering the wines that bear two of the region's important protected designations of origin.
An original and fun activity for visitors consists of the sensory game 'A prova di naso', hosted in Lucera's Museo Civico Fiorelli and Copertino's Courtyard of the Castello Angioino. Competitors have to follow their noses and try to identify the most important ingredients in the bouquets of Primitivo, Nero di Troia and Negroamaro. The best noses will win a selection of regional wines (booking necessary in both cities, free, rotating sessions for max 25 people each time).
And last but not least, Calici di Stelle will also be in the wineries, so that even the most far-flung wine tourists can enjoy the beauty of wine and stars by visiting the wineries and tasting their wines in the very places they are made. Six of the Movimento wineries will be welcoming visitors on the Night of San Lorenzo, 10 August: Tor de' Falchi (Minervino Murge – Bt), Vignuolo (Andria), Azienda Agricola Mazzone (Ruvo di Puglia – Ba), Terre di San Vito (Polignano a Mare – Ba), Amastuola (Massafra – Ta), Cantina Due Palme (Cellino San Marco – Br), with a full programme of entertainment, shows and wine tasting.

Calici di Stelle is a registered brand belonging to the Movimento Turismo del Vino, legally protected in order to prevent any form of misuse/imitation and to guarantee that consumers receive quality and professional standards. The event is organised in collaboration with Le Città del Vino.
