Cantina Sampietrana was born on April 21, 1952: a history of tradition, passion and strong bond with the land. The winery comes from the initiative of a group of vine growers, sharecroppers, colonists and owners, keen and motivated members moved by the shared vision of transforming the rich delicious local grapes into wines to be proposed directly to the market. Built a few meters from the railway, in order to facilitate the transport of wines to northern Italy and Europe, the winery is still located in the same building placed in the historic center of San Pietro Vernotico, a little town based halfway between Brindisi and Lecce. Located in Salento, the “Tacco d’Italia”, a strip of land rich in centuries-old olive groves and vineyards, bathed by two seas, the Adriatic and the Ionian, always caressed by sea breezes that help our grapes ripen under a hot sun.The area, bordered to the north by the Itria Valley, encloses the province of Lecce, Brindisi and most of Taranto; it is full of cities with great history, culture and artistic beauty as well as landing places and departures, the last piece of the ancient Via Appia and crossed by the Via Francigena.
